Activities for October

The month of October brings us season change with correlated activities. We are going to explore realistic portraits using the renowned Dutch artist Vermeer as inspiration.  We are also going to embark on a series of small activities ranging from poster contests to Halloween decorations.

We are going to be deepening our understanding of lines, shapes and textures through the process.  See our Current Lesson and Art Contests sections for more information.

Lastly we are going to take our 1st Grading Period Online Test before October 26.  Go to the Tests section to take it.

This is also the time of the year in our curriculum when we speak about western art and its impact on contemporary art.

Activities for September

September is already upon us! As we feel a change in cooler temperature we will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by creating artwork using as inspiration one of the most well known Mexican Artists: Diego Rivera.

As we create our artwork we will learn about colors background, foreground and scenes.  See our Lesson section for the details.
September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of fiveLatin American countries:
Costa RicaEl SalvadorGuatemalaHonduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, MexicoChile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively.[1]
Hispanic Heritage Month also celebrates the long and important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in North America, starting with the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus on the morning of October 12, 1492.  (Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hispanic_Heritage_Month)

Parents, your children need your help in providing them with the necessary art supplies as stated in the earlier post.  Without adequate supplies we will not be able to create artwork in our classroom.
