Activities for February 2023

 

February is the month we celebrate Black History Month and Valentine's Day! For these occasions we will be creating our own Basquiat inspired Pop Up Cards or Self Stories. We are also going to concentrate on understanding balance.



Lesson 1-2 / Dates

February 6 – February 17

Activity

Create an artwork or valentine Day’s card inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s style including using text enhancement to tell personal stories.

Materials

· White Paper 9” X 12”

· Red and Pink Paper 9” X 12”

· Colored Pencils

· Markers

· Scissors

· Glue Stick


Steps

1) Draw your heart inspired by the resources (Click on the blue links)

2) Write your text

3) Color and trace all lines and text

If you are doing a card:
4) Cut and glue the heart in the front of your card

5) Decorate the front of your card



4th-5th Grade: 

 

Materials

· White Paper 9” X 12”

· Red or Pink Paper 9” X 12”

· White, Yellow, Green... Paper strips 1 ¼” X 11”

· Scissors

· Glue Stick

 

Steps

1) Place your paper strips in a balanced design on your main paper (Click on the blue links)

2) Glue when happy with your design

Enrichment Projects

Explore other ways of expressing balanced or unbalanced compositions through art.

You may use Kadinsky's art style as inspiration for radial balance.
