Activities for March 2022

 

March is bringing a series of fun-filled activities with the celebration of Women's History Month, Dr. Seuss's Birthday,  Pi Day, St. Patrick's Day, and the beginning of Spring with Spring Break!  You will find listed below the art activities related to each of these events.

Steps
1) Sketch and color your plants
2) Cut out the shapes 
3) Glue it all together

Growing STEAMing Plants
5th Grade Projects - due on Wednesday March 30th

Assignment: build a planter to grow plants and record the results

1- Define the constraints 
(the problems you might have with this project, including the planter size restrictions)
2- Take notes and think of solutions
3- Make a plan using the following resources
4- Follow your plan and adjust it if necessary
5- Record your evidence throughout the process
Example: you can plant Basil, Parsley, and Chive seeds under a thin layer of soil.  
Water daily until seedlings are well established.  Germination time is 1-3 weeks.

Technology

Record a video of the process and use a QR Code to present as evidence. 
You can also use a QR Code to show your botanical drawings as evidence.

Build a creative planter no larger than 60 cubic feet (i.e. 3’ X 2’ x 5’ Calculate the Volume of a Box (calculateme.com) )

Use botanical illustrations in a journal to record the process and/or decorate your planters.
